FUN Show Canceled; Brasher Doubloon & Heritage Sale Move to Dallas

January 11, 2021

A new year has arrived but with much less fanfare than usual. With the FUN Show canceled, a continuing theme in our industry, Heritage Auctions moved the FUN Sale to their Dallas headquarters, and changed the date to January 20-24. It is truly a shame that the FUN Show could not be held this year because the added interest and excitement created would have been tremendous. With the number of ultra-rarities in this sale, we are sure that the bidding will still be extremely active and very competitive. And what a sale this is certain to be with the "world's most famous coin" headlining.
1787 Brasher Doubloon New York Style, EB on wing, certified by NGC MS65* and CAC

This is the finest known coin of the seven known Brasher Doubloons. The Brasher Doubloon has been featured in many movies because of its great historic relevance. The coin was designed by Ephraim Brasher in 1787 with 90% gold, 6.4% silver, 3% copper and some trace elements making up the difference. The first traceable owner of this particular coin was Matthew Adams Stickney who began collecting around 1820, and acquired this coin in 1848. Since that time, the coin has been traced to some super star collectors such as Ellsworth, Garrett, and Partrick. Over the last ten years, Brasher Doubloons in various grades have sold ranging from $4 million to $7.5 million. This coin should command a historic price.

1787 Brasher Doubloon New York Style, EB on wing, NGC MS65* CAC is available at Heritage Auctions FUN U.S. Coins Signature Sale in Dallas, Texas, January 20-24, 2021
