ANA Preview of Rarity: 1854 S $5 Gold Up for Auction

July 2018

The ANA Heritage Auction includes several important collections....selecting potential highlights is nearly impossible, but one that is sure to attract numerous bidders is the newly discovered 1854 S $5 Gold in NGC XF45. This coin is one of only four known in existence; of the others, one is in the Smithsonian and two are in private hands. This date had of an original mintage of 268, the smallest mintage of any No Motto $5 Gold....the NumisMedia FMV is at $1,562,500. This coin is likely to be the star of the sale....

Proof Morgan Dollars Featured at Summer FUN

July 16, 2018

The East End Collection included many high grade Morgan Dollars throughout the nearly complete set. There were some rather noteworthy Proof Morgan Dollars sold from this collection including an 1895 Morgan in NGC PR65 Cameo which brought $78,000. This low mintage rarity was collected early thus the number of coins in high grade is excessive compared to other dates. There are 29 certified in this grade with 4 of those making the CAC grade, and there are 46 coins certified higher than PR65. This is such a popular date that most major auctions will contain at least one up for bid....
