NumisMedia Weekly Market Report
Current News and Analysis of the
United States Rare Coin Market
Demand High for Rarities at Lower Levels
April 8, 2024
The Stack's Bowers Galleries most recent sale issued further proof of a softer market, even though there were plenty of active buyers. Numerous rarities were realized at discounts of current Market levels. A year ago, many of these coins would have brought bids as much as 25% higher. The 1948 Franklin Half in PCGS MS68 Full Bell Lines with the CMQ approval (previously highlighted) brought an amazing $84,000; this differed with some of the other results. Check with Stack's Bowers Galleries for a full listing of coins sold in their Spring 2024 Auction.
1802 Heraldic Eagle Half Dime certified by PCGS AU50 and CMQ
The 1802 Half Dime is an extreme rarity with an estimated thirty-five coins known to exist. There are a total of six coins certified in all AU grades, with two at the highest certified grade of PCGS AU55. There are just fifteen coins certified in all grades by PCGS and NGC. This coin came out of the Pogue Collection back in 2015 when it realized $305,500. This sale brought in a higher final price of $324,000; the current FMV is $356,250.
1802 Heraldic Eagle Half Dime PCGS AU50 CMQ sold for $324,000 in Stack's Bowers Galleries Spring 2024 Auction in Costa Mesa, California, March 25 - April 3, 2024
