Low-Pop Rare Date Morgan Dollars in Demand

January 22, 2018

The metals have gained momentum since the end of the year and continue to maintain their surge. This morning Gold is higher at $1,334.20 and Silver is at $17.02. Original one ounce Gold Eagles in MS69 are trading at $1,355 and Proof Gold Eagles in OGP are $1,380 per ounce. Proof Silver Eagles are status quo at $40 each. Bags of 90% silver are trading at $11,920 and VG Silver Dollars are $22,020 per bag of a thousand.
Though Gold has been steadily moving higher, the premiums for pre-1933 U.S. Gold coins have tightened. The difference between the generic Saint Gaudens in MS63 and AU50 is a mere $45 Market. The melt value for the Saint is $1,290 at today's Gold bullion value. With Modern Gold Eagles trading at $1,355, the MS63 Saint at $1,360 seem like a bargain.
There is a long list of adjustments in the Morgan Dollar chart this week with several rare dates attracting buyers. The 1893 S in MS61 is higher with a Market price of $135,000 and the 1894 O in MS65 is now $49,500. Below are some other important dates increasing this week along with their population for the grade.
