Stack's Bowers Sale Featured This Week in Baltimore

With so much uncertainty as world events are unfolding, Gold and the other metals have pushed for much higher levels with Gold breaking records on a weekly basis. Currently Gold is near the $3,400 mark and Silver has finally made a strong run to well over $36 an ounce. This week's Whitman Baltimore Expo should be one with lots of activity, and the metals will be a main focus for dealers, which really has been the norm for several years now.
The Stack's Bowers Galleries auction featured in Baltimore will again take place the following week at their main offices in California. This sale contains a wide array of collector coins, many in high grades. Indian Cents and Morgan Dollars in top grades should attract some very competitive bidding. Below are some of the potential highlights from Stack's Bowers June Showcase.
1878 Morgan Dollar 8TF certified by CACG MS66 PL and CMQ
The 1878 8 Tail-Feathers is a very tough coin to locate in MS66 and higher grades; there is a total of three coins certified in MS67 and higher. There is only one coin in MS66, but that is in DMPL. The coin listed here is the first we have encountered in MS66 PL and it is certified by CACG. We have the MS66 DMPL listed at $67,000. Silver Dollar buyers are some of the more avid collectors of all US coins; they will determine the value of this unique Morgan Dollar, and we will finally be able to put a value on this grade.

1872 CC $20 Gold certified by NGC MS61
The 1872 CC $20 Gold is one of the top five Carson City Twenties by rarity; the original mintage was 26,900. There are just twenty-three coins certified in all Mint State grades with just two in MS62 and a total of twelve in MS61 including this coin. Stack's Bowers sold another MS61 for $90,000 back in November of last year. We currently list this date and grade at $148,500. With Gold on nearly every buy list, a coin with this rarity should get some extra attention at auction.
