Gold Surpasses $1,400 an Ounce
All the Gold, Silver and Platinum charts are moving higher with the continued advance of these metals. Over the last six months, the majority of trading traffic on the dealer networks has been mostly related to bullion and dealers have profited. In addition, the collectors holding on to their purchases have seen their portfolios rise as well. In the last couple of weeks, we have noticed an increase in demand for a variety of numismatic coins that have been ignored during the run-up in metals.
There may not be a lot of advances for many of these coins, but interest is renewed and there is lots of bargain hunting at this time. Washington Quarters are on the radar for many collectors. It seems like anything in MS66 and higher will sell if it is within a reasonable range of the current FMV. Dates wanted are anything prior to 1964. Classic Silver Commemoratives have been trading in many auctions around the country. These may require a slight discount, but if they are nice, buyers are ready.
In this week's LD Wholesale Market Dealer Price Guide advances can be found in most series. Buffalo Nickels reveal numerous increases to Market prices in this previously inactive series. For the last year or so, Buffalo Nickels had been drifting almost endlessly. Mercury Dimes are seeing an increase in activity buy mostly at current levels. The chart for Lincoln Cents contains many advances as collectors are seeking various better dates. It is a matter of color and eye appeal along with the price on whether a buyer will accept a specific coin. Many of the mint marked coins in the teens and twenties, in Red and Brown, can be very appealing to advanced collectors.
