Uncommonly Active Holiday Season

Even though the show circuit is basically done for the year, dealers are still trying to finish the year strong by taking advantage of the increased activity while it lasts. Along with holiday gift-giving sales, the strength of the metals market is keeping dealers busy. Circulated Morgan and Peace Dollars are now worth at least $22 with most wholesaling between $24 to $26, and bags of 90% silver coins are trading at $20,500 per.

We are beginning to see more increases in Market prices for specific coins. Over the last six months most coins have traded near the current Market levels with few changes across the charts in most series, with the exceptions of the U.S. Gold series. Now we are starting to see more dealers offering to buy coins at higher levels. Silver Commemoratives are showing some movement although buyers are still rather selective for these coins. In this week's LD Wholesale Market Dealer Price Guide Indian Cents are showing vast improvements in many MS64 and 65 dates; an indication that collector interest is on the rise. The same can be said for Lincoln Cents with most advances in MS64 for key and semi key dates.

We are finding an increase in dealer trades for the + designation on NGC and PCGS coins. In some cases, the premiums are about 10% above the current levels. However, coins that are already rare by date and grade population can see premiums of 50% or more. In some of the series after the 1930's, when there are high mintages, coins such as Mercury Dimes and Walking Liberty Halves in the 1940's, premiums may be very minute. The + designation will improve the chances of selling these more common coins.
