Bidders Focused on Early Twenties

The Dallas ANA showed how popular big-ticket coins are among today's hungry buyers. The Heritage Signature Sale showcased a variety of true rarities with 12 coins bringing over $100,000. One of the more celebrated coins sold was the 1793 Wreath Cent, Vine and Bars; this is graded SP66 Brown by NGC and realized $329,000. Another high-powered rarity, an 1802 Bust Dollar in PCGS PR64 changed hands at $411,250.

Early and rare Twenties gain a lot of attention when they are available. This is one of the most sought after areas of numismatics by advanced collectors. The following list of Twenties sold at the Heritage Sale.

1852 O $20 Gold - MS60 - $29,375

The market for small denomination type coins in the 1800's is solid at today's levels. This week's LD Wholesale Market Dealer Price Guide noted numerous advances for Half and Large Cents. The 1833 Half Cent in PR64 Brown is higher at $6,550 and the 1843 in the same grade is up to $11,000. In the Large Cent series, the 1795 Lettered Edge in MS65 Brown is now at $64,500.
