NumisMedia Weekly Market Report
October 29, 2012
Generic Gold Drifts Lower
This week's HD Wholesale Market Dealer Price Guide reports a significant number of increases for High Denomination issues from Half Dollars through $20 Gold. Nearly every series has increases with the exception of generic Gold which is lower since last reported. Dealers are looking for just about anything within these series that is properly graded and has some eye appeal. Bust Halves are showing signs of strength with many advances this week. The 1795 Flowing Hair moved up to $56,750 Market in MS62, while the 1809 in MS65 increased to $12,650 and the 1825 in MS66 rose to $14,500.
Here are a variety of other coins that made moves in the last few weeks.
1866 Seated Half Dollar - MS67 - $16,500
1903 S Barber Half Dollar - MS66 - $7,925
1802 Bust Dollar - PR64 - $340,000
1882 CC Morgan Dollar - MS67 - $5,450
1880 $2 ½ Gold - MS64 - $5,000
1846 O $5 Gold - MS61 - $10,500
1865 $10 Gold - AU58 - $14,750
1854 S $20 Gold - MS63 - $23,500
1869 S $20 Gold - MS64 - $56,500
All U. S. Gold remains very active at current levels; Early Gold is especially strong as long as coins have eye appeal for the grade with no distracting marks. High grade Deep Mirror Prooflike Dollars are in demand with buyers trying to attract potential sellers. NGC certified Carson City Dollars have seen a major increase in the number of dealers participating in this market. Prices have become very competitive and even the Prooflike and Deep Mirror coins are moving out of inventories quickly.
