NumisMedia Weekly Market Report
More Participating in GSA Market
March 25, 2013
For several months the Carson City Dollar market has been extremely active. The usual market makers have been very aggressive and this has created increased pressure on the entire marketplace. More and more dealers have been getting involved with this series, which includes the NGC certified GSA black holder coins. During this rush to purchase these coins the 1882 CC GSA has become quite difficult to acquire. Demand has far outweighed the current supplies and buyers have raised their prices to attract sellers. The following list of GSA Dollars has increased in the last few weeks. The values listed are the dealer Market prices.
1879 CC GSA - NGC - MS64 - $12,000
1880 CC GSA - NGC - MS66 - $5,350
1882 CC GSA - NGC - MS64 - $270
1882 CC GSA - NGC - MS66 - $1,775
1890 CC GSA - NGC - MS63 - $4,425
1891 CC GSA - NGC - MS63 - $3,475
While most common date U.S. Gold has adjusted downward since the last HD Wholesale Market Dealer Price Guide, the better date coins are trading at current levels or higher. Twenty Dollar Gold Type I is one of the more desirable series in numismatics. It contains numerous rarities and they are very difficult to obtain in higher grades. Many are found in the AU grades but most of them are limited in Mint State to MS62 or lower, and anything higher is usually a quick seller. This past couple of weeks numerous dates have advanced due to recent trades or higher buy prices. For example, the 1852 O in MS60 increased to $22,500 Market and the 1855 O jumped in all grades from AU50 through MS61. There are only a total of 41 coins certified by both NGC and PCGS in these grades. There are none certified higher than MS61.
