NumisMedia Weekly Market Report
Inaugural PNG Dallas Show This Week
February 23, 2015
This week marks the first annual PNG Dallas Coin and Paper Money Show which begins Thursday and runs through Saturday. This inaugural show will feature both PNG dealers and non-member dealers and the surrounding Dallas area has a large dealer and collector base. A major part of the attraction will be Heritage Auctions hosting the official auction. Bust Half Dollar collectors should be rather enthusiastic with over 300 lots which include many rare Overton varieties. Major sales of collections like this one typically spark renewed interest in varieties.
There are numerous potential highlights from the Heritage Auctions sale beginning with the 1802/1 $5 Gold in PCGS MS64+. This coin has just 33 coins certified in the MS64 grade with only three coins higher and one is an MS66. However, there are only two coins certified with the + designation in MS64 with no plus designations higher. The current Market price is $52,500, but the + value is listed at $71,000. Below are some of the other major rarities in this sale.
1802/1 $5 Gold PCGS MS64+ is available in the Heritage Auctions PNG Dallas Invitational U.S. Coins Signature Auction in Dallas, Texas, February 26 - March 1, 2015

There are declines across the charts for modern bullion coins in this week's Wholesale Market Dealer Price Guide. This comes on the heels of Gold falling from just under $1,300 down to the current $1,202 mark in the last month. The current Market price for the most common $50 Gold in MS69 is at $1,240, while the common $100 Platinum is $1,205 in the same grade. Common $5 Gold Commemoratives are trading at $305 in MS69, while the $10 Gold Commemoratives, which include the Spouse Gold, are $605 Market in MS69. While Buffalo Gold has also fallen over the last few weeks, this area still generates lots of interest among buyers.
