D. Brent Pogue Collection Part I Preview

New York is definitely the place to be for the next 10 days as advanced collectors and dealers will be attending this week's Heritage Auctions Gardner Sale Part III, which is followed by next week's sale of the D. Brent Pogue Collection Part I hosted by Stack's Bowers Galleries and Sotheby's. Last week we previewed the Gardner Sale, now we will take a similar first look at some of the many rarities included in this portion of the Pogue Collection.
The 1808 Capped Bust $2 ½ Gold in PCGS MS65 is so rare that we do not have a current FMV listed. This is the only coin certified with none grading higher, and it will surely bring well over $1 million and could approach the $2 million mark.

Another leading highlight from the $2 ½ Gold series is the 1796 Capped Bust with Stars, in PCGS MS62; this coin has a current FMV of $268,750 and there are only 2 finer graded by PCGS. Below are some of the other potential highlights from this first sale.

Following the historic first installment of the Pogue sale, Stack's Bowers Galleries will conduct a Rarities Auction with numerous highlights for collectors and dealers. The most famous $20 Gold Saint Gaudens High Relief will be the top attraction of this sale. This coin is the 1907 Ultra High Relief with Lettered Edge certified by PCGS as PR69 and has a current FMV of $4,437,500. This is only one of the many rarities in these unique sales that will certainly influence FMV adjustments over the upcoming months.
This week's HD Wholesale Market Dealer Price Guide contains many changes throughout the charts. This is the most activity we have seen in the last few months, results from some of the better to rare coins that have traded in the last few weeks. Demand remains very healthy for those coins that are not frequently seen in the market.
Early Type up to the 1870's is especially solid at current levels with eye appeal coins attracting additional attention. The 1795 Flowing Hair Half Dollar is higher in MS63, now at $94,500 Market, while the 1797 Draped Bust 15 Stars is up to $380,000 in MS64. The 1795 Flowing Hair Dollar 3 Leaves is now at $230,000 in MS64 and $375,000 in MS65. In addition, the 1795 Draped Bust Dollar Small Eagle has jumped to $115,000 in MS63.
