NumisMedia Weekly Market Report

Rare Saints Featured at Heritage Auction

October 24, 2016

Heritage Auctions is in New York for their next Signature Sale, October 31 through November 2. Featured is a nice variety of rarities throughout including a vast selection of rare date Saint Gaudens, which should add some excitement to an otherwise lackluster coin market.
Among the double eagles available is a 1920 S in PCGS MS65 which has also been CAC approved. There are just two coins certified in MS66 and a total of 106 in all Mint State grades; MS65 has six certified by PCGS and NGC combined with just two possessing the CAC sticker. The current Market for MS65 is $255,000, but this price is the result of a very old transaction.

Another collector favorite will be the 1921 Saint graded PCGS MS62. While the grade is on the low end of Mint State, this is an opportunity to buy-in at a very reasonable price. The MS62 Market price is $105,000 but the MS63 jumps up to $178,500. There are only 25 coins certified higher than this MS62.
Another important Saint available will be the 1927 S in PCGS MS65 CAC; there are nine certified in this grade with just two making the CAC approval. Even though there are 11 coins grading higher, the Market jump from MS65 to MS66 is $115,000 to $150,000 and this current coin is likely to approach the higher price. Below are a few of the many highlights from this sale.
