NumisMedia Weekly Market Report
Metals Higher, Premiums Tighten
August 14, 2017
The metals have been on the rise over the last couple of weeks and activity among most dealers has been increasing as well. This morning Gold is $1,280.50 and Silver is $17.07. Proof one ounce Gold Eagles are trading at $1,340 in the original OGP and one ounce Proof Silver Eagles are $32 to $33 each. Bags of 90% silver are $12,150 and VG and better Silver Dollars are $22,375.
Even though the Modern Bullion price guide charts are showing higher Market values this week, it has been difficult for dealers to profit on bullion coins because the premiums are currently so low.
Just in the last few weeks we have noticed more various date MS69 $25 American Gold Eagles trading on the teletype systems. Part of the reason that the MS69 coins are so strong is that the spreads to the MS70 prices are rather dramatic. Some of these increases are listed below.
Highest graded Kennedy Halves are very popular with collectors and many of these coins have low populations. This week the 1964 Accented Hair Half Dollar in Deep Cameo PR68 & PR69 are higher at $9,850 and $16,500, respectively. The 1965 SMS in Deep Cameo 67 is up to $3,700 Market.
We are finding more discounts on some of the PR70 Deep Cameo Eisenhower Dollars as populations increase and availability eases. This week the 1974 S Silver Deep Cameo in PR70 is lower at $675 Market and the 1976 S Silver Ike in Deep Cameo PR70 is down to $1,575.
