Rare Date Morgan Dollars Up for Bid
May 7, 2018

Once featured in the Jack Lee Collection, the 1878 7/8 TF in PCGS MS65 DMPL is again up for auction. This coin is only 1 of 3 certified in this highest grade. The NumisMedia Market value is currently at $15,250, but this price has been unchanged for ten years, last updated when this coin was last auctioned.

Another important Morgan Dollar date available from the P.F.M. Collection is the 1884 S in PCGS MS63, currently valued at $48,000 Market. This is one of the keys of the series and it is a very difficult date to acquire in this grade or higher. With a coin as mark-free as this one, it should bring a premium bid. A few of the other remarkable Morgan Dollars that will be available at the Legend sale are listed below.

There is a long list of increases in Seated Half Dollars this week with many of the changes in dates and grades that are not frequently adjusted. For example, the 1849 O in MS62 is higher at $1,475 Market and the 1851 O in MS62 is now $1,625. Some prices in the top grades have increased with the 1854 Arrows in MS66 up to $13,000 and the 1861 O in MS66 now at $13,500.
The continuing high demand for Early Walking Liberty Half Dollars in the highest grades is pushing Market values to new levels. The 1917 S Reverse in MS65 advanced to $12,350 and the 1921 D in MS65 is up to $35,250. The tough mint marked early dates are keeping buyers and sellers very active as they try to locate any of the dates prior to 1933 with positive eye appeal.
