NumisMedia Weekly Market Report

Legend Sets the Tone for Long Beach

January 28, 2019

Dealers and collectors are in Southern California this week with the Long Beach Expo starting Thursday, Wednesday for dealers. The week began in Beverley Hills for a two-day sale that ends today hosted by Legend Rare Coin Auctions, and bidders so far have been very competitive.

One of the early highlights from the first session of the Regency Auction 30 was a 1909 D $20 Gold St. Gaudens in PCGS MS67 CAC that was formerly from the Eliasberg and Duckor collections. This is the finest known and the only one with the CAC sticker, and it brought $329,000. The current NumisMedia CAC value is $350,000.

Even though there were over 900,000 coins originally minted, there are very few available in high grades with only a total of 15 in MS65 and higher.
