Gold has climbed quickly the past few trading days, up through the $1,300 level again. In morning trading Gold is $1,320.30 and Silver is $14.74. Proof Gold Eagles in the OGP are currently trading at $1,350 for the one ounce coin and the Proof Silver Eagle is at $38-$39.
Bullion related trading continues to be the focus for many dealers, especially on the teletype systems. However, there are more areas of stability this week, particularly in the lower denominations, compared to price levels from the past few months. Many prices have dropped to the point that dealers are willing to pay the current Market levels for coins that meet their grading criteria, nice coins for the grade with no obvious problems. Dealers and their clients are being very selective in what they will purchase at today's prices.
To illustrate, the MS64 Liberty Seated Dime with Legend had a Market value of $350 in 2012; today it is at $285. Some dealers believe that the higher-end-for-the-grade coins are a bargain at these levels. The NumisMedia graphs within the online price charts can help dealers and collectors find other series and dates that have performed well over the last several years.
