NumisMedia Weekly Market Report

Highest Graded Full Band Mercury Dimes Sold

July 1, 2019

Gold made it up over the $1,430 mark just before the end of June as the metals had made a strong run over the last few weeks. Profit-taking has ensued and in morning trading Gold is at $1,388. Most analysts believe Gold has found a new base of $1,370 with a trading range up to $1,420. One ounce Proof Gold Eagles in the OGP are trading at $1,420 and Proof Silver Eagles are at $39.

Legend Rare Coin Auctions held their 33rd Regency Sale this past week in Las Vegas in conjunction with the PCGS Members Show. Bidding was very active and consistent with quality from the individual lots to the collections. One of the top highlights was the 1797 Draped Bust Half Dime with 16 Stars in PCGS MS65+ and the CAC sticker, bringing $105,750. This is the only one certified in this grade, although there are two coins listed higher in PCGS MS66.

Also highlighted were two highest-graded-for-the-date Mercury Dimes in Full Band, both selling for remarkable prices and both with at least three active bidders in the final stages. The first was a 1931 S PCGS MS67+ FB with CAC approval which brought $270,250; this is the only coin in this grade with none higher. The second was a 1938 S PCGS MS68+ FB CAC that realized a phenomenal $364,250. This coin has superb russet toning and a tremendous strike and is the only coin certified in this grade with the CAC sticker and none higher. Below are some of the many highlights from the Legend Regency Auction 33 Sale.
