Upcoming Whitman Baltimore Expo Features Stack's Bowers Sale
November 4, 2019
The Whitman Baltimore Expo, the last major show of the year, is just a little over a week away, November 14-17. Stack's Bowers Galleries will be hosting their Rarities Night which will garner most of the attention from dealers and collectors with numerous outstanding rarities set to find new owners. One of the highlights is an 1802 Draped Bust Half Dime in NGC AU50, the highest graded at NGC, although there are 3 certified higher by PCGS with AU55 the highest known. This is the second rarest Half Dime behind the 1870 S. The current Market listed for the 1802 in AU50 is $275,000.

One of the rarest New Orleans minted Double Eagles, the 1856 O $20 Gold, this one certified by NGC as AU53, is typically a popular draw because it is the lowest minted 'O' Mint Twenty. There are just 3 coins certified in this grade with another 10 higher, but only one in MS63. Below are some of the other potential highlights from the Stack's Bowers Baltimore Sale.

The metals have remained within a steady range over the last couple of weeks with Gold currently at $1,507.50 and Silver at $18.03. The premiums have tightened considerably so buyers have been able to purchase bullion coins at the most reasonable percentage above the spot price possibly in history. Spreads between the buy and sell among dealers is so narrow it is difficult to figure how they are making any money. But this is what the retail buyers are pursuing right now so dealers are forced to participate in this market.
