NumisMedia Weekly Market Report
2019 Winding Down with Final Legend Auction
December 16, 2019
Legend Rare Coin Auctions Regency 35 sale is in the books, their last auction of the year and the main event at the PCGS Member's only Show in Las Vegas. One of the highlights of this sale turned out to be a 1934 S Peace Dollar in PCGS MS66+ with the CAC sticker, selling for $79,312.50; it is tied for the highest certified with one other PCGS coin. There are a total of 49 coins certified in MS66 (no +) which includes PCGS and NGC. The current NumisMedia price for this date in MS66+ is $37,500 and the CAC price is $41,500. Obviously, the premium designations for this date and grade combine to make this an extreme rarity with a greater value.

Type II $1 Gold coins are extremely difficult to find in high grade. This sale offered an 1854 $1 Gold TII in PCGS MS66+ with CAC approval and it realized $76,375. This is the only coin certified in this grade. There are 2 coins certified by PCGS in MS67 and 2 more in NGC MS68, but these brought substantially more money in auction prior to 2010 with nothing reported since. There are some recent MS66 coin trades, but they have not had the premium designations and they are usually sold for around $35,000-$40,000. Below are some other highlights from the Legend Regency 35 Sale.
