NumisMedia Weekly Market Report
Metals Continue Upward Trend
June 1, 2020
The metals have maintained some strength since April, and now Silver is pushing even higher, currently at $18.29. Many analysts have been touting Silver for quite some time. Gold is at $1,738.50 in morning trading and while prices are steady, the premiums have drifted lower over the last two weeks from the recent highs. A little more physical product is currently available while buyers are being a little more cautious as prices rise. Circulated Silver Dollars are very strong with VG bags up to around $21,000 for 1,000 coins. Proof one ounce Gold Eagles in the OGP are wholesaling at $1,850 and Silver Eagles are $45.
The most recent Legend Rare Coin Auctions sale, Regency Auction 38, was a live stream with a smaller than usual lineup, but definitely the same kind of rarities and quality that the numismatic community has become accustomed. While the two featured $20 Gold New Orleans rarities did not meet the reserve (1854 O PCGS XF40 & 1856 O PCGS XF45 CAC), there were plenty of other highlights on which to report.
The top seller in this sale turned out to be the 1909 O $5 Gold Indian in PCGS MS63 CAC, selling for $114,563. This is an extremely rare date and quite popular with dealers and collectors. It is usually available in MS62 and lower Mint State grades but becomes very difficult to locate in MS63 and higher. There are 3 coins graded in MS63 with the CAC sticker while there are 18 coins higher with MS66 the single highest certified by PCGS.

An absolutely lovely 1918/7 D Buffalo Nickel in PCGS MS64+ with the CAC sticker brought nearly $100,000 at $99,875. There are 4 coins certified in this grade with the CAC approval but is the only one with the + designation as well. There are 8 coins certified higher with MS66 the highest. The following list includes some of the other highlights from Legend Rare Coin Auction Regency 38.
