NumisMedia Weekly Market Report
With Events Canceled, Auctioneers Persevere
July 20, 2020
The ANA has officially canceled this year's World's Fair of Money; the show was scheduled for August 4-8, and was to be held in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. However, the slated official auctioneers for the ANA event, Heritage Auctions and Stack's Bowers Galleries, will still host their world-class auctions. This week we will take a look at the Heritage sale which will be held in Dallas at their brand new headquarters, August 3-4, conducted by remote bidding only. Many of the featured lots will be sold in the Platinum Night portion of the sale on August 4th.
1910 $20 Gold Saint Gaudens PCGS Experimental Finish SP66+ CAC. This is one of several experimental piece styles that were minted to satisfy the demands of designers, collectors, and the mint. While most experimental pieces were melted, this coin is likely the only one known with this finish. This coin is not listed in our price guide as it is the only coin certified in any grade; the value will soon be realized.

1819 $5 Gold 5D/50 PCGS MS65 CAC. This coin is currently listed in our CAC price guide at $420,000. The 5D on the reverse refers to the denomination, but it looks like the D was formed by an 'I' punched over an 'O', thus appearing as 5D. The original mintage for the 1819 $5 Gold was just over 51,000 coins, however, the estimated survival is likely under 30 coins; there are just 18 total certified by PCGS and NGC. Below are some other potential highlights from this significant Heritage Signature Sale.
