Major Auctions Sparking an Already Hot Market

This is a big week for rare coins with Stack's Bowers Galleries and Heritage Auctions both presenting major auctions; in our last report we covered the Heritage Auction.
Stack's Bowers Galleries will present their sale at the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas in conjunction with the PCGS Members Only Show. There will be some in person live bidding in accordance with the current pandemic rules; however, much of the bidding will be conducted by phone and over the Internet. Stack's Bowers, with the longevity and reputation that attracts great collectors and collections, is again offering a large selection of great rarities, with some notable lots in Copper.
1793 Flowing Hair Large Cent, Chain Reverse, AMERICA, certified by PCGS AU55 and CAC. This coin is just one of 16 total certified in AU55 with only 4 of them having the CAC sticker. There are only 15 total certified in Mint State Brown, and the highest grade is NGC MS66 BN. There is also a second coin in this sale with nearly the identical grade but with 'Periods' and without the CAC approval.

1793 Flowing Hair Large Cent with the Strawberry Leaf certified by PCGS VG10. There are only 4 known examples of this rarity with this coin being the finest known. The Fair Market Value price guide lists this coin at $294,000, but this value is from old data and is sure to be adjusted to a much higher level once this sale is complete.

1883 S Morgan Dollar certified by PCGS MS67+ P/L and CAC. Not only is this a rare date in a high grade, it is the finest known 1883 S Morgan. This coin was part of the Eliasberg Collection sold in 1997. It is currently valued at $275,000 and likely to realize much higher. Below are some other highlights from this sale.
