NumisMedia Weekly Market Report
Auctions and Rising Metals Motivate Market
August 17, 2020
Auction week is over and the results have revealed that a hot metals market has undoubtedly carried over to rare coins. Higher metals typically creates a positive energy that can lead buyers to many other areas of numismatics. With Gold reaching a new high, over $2,000 an ounce, and Silver challenging higher levels on a daily basis, currently chasing $28 an ounce, rare coin prices are rising in some series, sales have been picking up, and the big auction houses have had rather successful sales.
Heritage Auctions began the week with their 1,800+ lot Signature Sale at their headquarters in Dallas. There were numerous significant rarities to highlight.
1819 $5 Gold 5D/50 certified by PCGS MS65 and CAC
This coin brought $444,000 which is just above the NumisMedia CAC listing of $420,000. This is the finest known of this variety with just 18 coins certified by both services.
