NumisMedia Weekly Market Report

Heritage Signature Auction Rescheduled to February 23-25

February 22, 2021

Due to the extreme weather conditions in Texas this past week, Heritage Auctions opted to postpone their next Signature Sale which includes the Bob R. Simpson Collection Part IV; scheduled to take place February 18-21, it has been rescheduled to February 23-25. This sale fills the typical calendar slot of the Long Beach Expo, but like most recent Heritage sales, it is being held at their home offices in Dallas, Texas. The major highlights of this sale include many rarities that are infrequently seen available in today’s market.
1943 Bronze Lincoln Cent certified by PCGS MS62 Brown and CAC

This is a coin that attracts new collectors (and media) to numismatics but also leads to quite a few phone calls to dealers because someone found a 1943 cent. The found coin, however, is typically the zinc “silver” example or a cheap counterfeit. The real 1943 Bronze Cent probably has a total of 20 in existence from the Philadelphia Mint, with another 5 from San Francisco, and only a single coin known from the Denver Mint. This coin is the highest graded from the Philadelphia Mint certified by PCGS, and although NGC has certified a MS63, there is no auction information available to verify its existence. It has likely been resubmitted and is now in a MS62 holder. The current NumisMedia CAC value in MS62 is $370,000.

1878 7TF Morgan Dollar Reverse of 1878 certified by PCGS PR67+ and CAC

Not only is this the highest graded coin for the date from either service, it is spectacular to the eye as well. It has bullseye toning on both sides just missing the center on the obverse. The collector who wins this bidding war will be proud to show this off to his numismatic friends. Currently listed at $72,000 in the NumisMedia CAC price guide.

1916 S $5 Gold Indian certified by PCGS MS66

This is one of the key dates in the $5 Indian series and the MS66 grade is the highest certified. There are a total of 7 certified by both services with 2 attaining the + designation. The current NumisMedia FMV is $85,730. There are many other rarities in this Heritage Signature Sale that should attract some very aggressive bidding, a few highlights are listed below.
