NumisMedia Weekly Market Report
Morgan and Peace Dollars are Leading the Market
May 24, 2021
Prices throughout all series in the coin market have been advancing over the last few months without much resistance from buyers; Morgan and Peace Dollars, in particular, have been highly in demand. Looking at the Morgan Dollar market, comparing prices from the beginning of the year to today, in just over four months, prices are up and rising across the board. The FMV for the MS65 Morgan Dollar was $163 and today it is $225, the MS64 was $77 and now it is $112, and there are buyers everywhere trying to fill orders.
The upcoming Stack's Bowers Galleries Auction will be a good test of the current hot coin market. This is an online event although there will be some in person bidding subject to the current Covid protocols. This sale takes place June 10-16 at their Costa Mesa Headquarters. Here are a few featured rarities and some other potential highlights are listed below from this upcoming Stack's Bowers Galleries Auction.
1795 Flowing Hair Dollar Two Leaves certified by NGC AU58
There are two varieties for the 1795 Dollar, one with two leaves below the Eagle's wings and the other with three leaves; the two leaves example is the rarer of the two. By comparison, the three leaves variety has over 70 Mint State coins certified with MS66 the highest. The current FMV for the two leaves variety in AU58 is $53,440.
