NumisMedia Weekly Market Report

Major Auctions Thriving, Leading the Market

July 26, 2021

The latest Legend Rare Coin Auctions Regency 46 sale took place in Las Vegas (July 15) in conjunction with the PCGS Members Only Show, and the competition was again strong despite the fact that most bidding came from the Internet and telephone. Of course, it would be nice to have the previous aura of excitement from a maxed-out room of in-person attendees, especially when there is a great rarity up for sale. But the major auction houses, sale after sale, continue to find success in our new world, proving that the coin market is very healthy, and they are attracting new collectors and investors to the industry.
1889 CC Morgan Dollar certified by PCGS MS63 Prooflike and CAC

The 1889 CC Morgan Dollar is likely the most popular Carson City Dollar, it is rare in all grades. One of the keys to the set, but when it is Prooflike or Deep Mirror Prooflike it is even more desirable to collectors. This 1889 CC Morgan sold for $42,500 and it is a borderline MS64, or at the very least it should have received an MS63+ designation. It did get the CAC approval, so you know it is a premium coin. While there are 33 coins certified by PCGS in this grade, only five are CAC approved.
