NumisMedia Weekly Market Report
Official ANA Auctions to be Held This Week
August 16, 2021
This should be another big week with two major auctions following the successful ANA World's Fair of Money. By all accounts the ANA was a really good show and many dealers reported that it was perhaps their best ever. With metals rebounding mid-week and most dealers having programs that are moving lots of material, this was bound to be a good show for the majority. The official auctions of the ANA are being held the week following the show at the individual headquarters of the two official auctioneers, Stack's Bowers Galleries and Heritage Auctions. This week we are featuring potential highlights from Heritage Auctions.
1794 Flowing Hair Dollar certified by PCGS MS66+ and CAC
This is an incredible 1794 Dollar out of the Bob Simpson Collection with a pedigree of other famous collectors such as Lord St. Oswald, Hayes, and Pogue. It last sold in the Stack's Bowers sale of the Pogue Collection in 2015 for nearly $5 million. This is the finest known and the next closest grade is an MS64. The current FMV is listed at $7.5 million and the Plus+ price is at $8.1 million; there is no value listed for the CAC at this time.

1854 S $5 Gold certified by PCGS XF45
The 1854 S had an original mintage of just 268 coins but there are just four known with one of those in the National Numismatic Collection, leaving just three coins for collectors. There are no Mint State coins with just one in AU58. This XF45 was originally discovered by a New England collector and then offered in the 2018 ANA Heritage Signature Sale where it realized $2,160,000. The current FMV for XF40 is $1,718,750 and there is no price for XF45. More potential highlights from the Heritage Auctions Sale are listed below.
