Early Bust Halves Highlight Legend Regency Sale
September 13, 2021
The most recent Legend Rare Coin Auctions sale was held at the Bellagio in Las Vegas, September 2nd, in conjunction with the PCGS Members Only Show. This Regency 47 Sale followed other recent major auctions with similar impressive results, with echoing responses of rare coins with low populations are easy sellers and prices are advancing. Type Coins that are high grade with superb eye appeal have also been in demand at these major auctions and are selling at premium prices. This Legend sale also included many important Early Half Dollars.
1794 Flowing Hair Half Dollar certified by PCGS AU58 and CAC
This is the finest known for this particular variety (O-106). Then again, all of the 1794 Halves in this condition are extremely rare and difficult to acquire; there are only 8 coins listed in Mint State with the MS64+ Pogue coin the highest certified. This coin has lovely fields and wonderful original patina but has just enough wear to keep it from the Mint State category, and it sold for $199,750. The NumisMedia CAC value is at $195,000 and there will be some upward adjustment.

1796 Draped Bust Half Dollar 15 Stars certified by PCGS AU58+
This 1796 15 Stars Half is the only one certified in the AU58+ grade; there are only 8 coins in higher grades with MS64 the highest. With the quality and eye appeal of this coin the premium price realized of $258,500 was well deserved. The NumisMedia Plus+ value is currently at $246,000 and will see an increase in the next upload. Below are some other highlights from this Legend Regency 47 Sale.
