NumisMedia Weekly Market Report

Overall Market Steady with Full Schedule Ahead

June 27, 2022

With the Whitman Expo now a few weeks past and the Stack's Bowers Galleries sale in the books, dealers are now focusing on other major events. The Long Beach Expo is this week, and while the Heritage Signature Sale for Long Beach will be available for viewing at the show, the actual sale will take place beginning on July 14th as a combined Long Beach/Summer FUN Sale. The Summer FUN Show in Orlando, Florida runs the week after Long Beach, from July 7-9.
Major auctions have continued to provide competitive bidding and high final bid prices for coins that are rare by date and/or quality. While there may not have been a long list of high-priced rarities in the most recent Stack's Bowers Auction, many of the included rarities attracted some strong bids. The highlighted 1892 S Morgan Dollar in PCGS MS64 with the CAC approval sold for $162,000. Also, the extremely attractive 1904 Twenty Dollar Gold in PCGS MS67 brought $138,000. Below are some other highlights from the Stack's Bowers Baltimore Sale.
1902 Indian Cent certified by PCGS MS68 Red

The 1902 Indian Cent is a common date with a mintage of over 87 million coins. However, there are only three certified in the highest grade of MS68, two by PCGS and one by NGC. This coin sold for $144,000, clearly indicating that buyers are willing to pay top dollar for the best coins.
