Heritage Sale Yields Nearly $18 Million
July 25, 2022
Heritage Auctions completed another successful week with the Long Beach Expo/Fun Sale. The actual auction was again held at their Dallas offices, post both major shows, and the sale realized almost $18 million. There were numerous seldom seen rarities which attracted very aggressive bidding highlighted by the top sellers: the 1943 Bronze Lincoln Cent in PCGS AU50 sold for $336,000 and the 1907 $10 Gold Indian Rolled Edge in PCGS MS66 hammered at a phenomenal $810,000. Below are some other highlights from the Heritage Long Beach Expo/Fun Sale.
1907 $10 Gold Indian Wire Rim certified by PCGS MS67
The 1907 $10 Gold Indian Wire Rim had an original mintage of just 500 coins with the majority of the survivors in the high grades. There are a total of only 12 coins combined in PCGS and NGC in the MS67 grade. There are over 440 coins certified in all other Mint State grades with the likelihood that many are resubmissions. This 1907 Wire Rim in MS67 brought $336,000 which tied the 1943 Bronze Lincoln Cent for second highest lot in this sale. The Pogue coin of the same grade sold in early 2020 by Stack's Bowers for $240,000. The current NumisMedia FMV is $312,000.

1930 S $10 Gold Indian certified by PCGS MS66 and CAC
Another top rarity in this sale, the 1930 S $10 Gold Indian in PCGS MS66 with CAC approval realized $264,000. This date had an original mintage of 96,000 but there are less than 150 coins certified in all of the Mint State grades and just 8 certified in MS66 and higher. It is estimated that nearly 95,000 coins were melted down because of the 1933 Gold recall. In the most recent sale of this date, a PCGS MS65+ sold for $141,000 back in January of this year. The current NumisMedia CAC value for the MS66 is at $175,000 but will be adjusted as a result of this sale.
