August 15, 2022

The ANA World's Fair of Money starts this week in Chicago, and there are several major auctions upcoming, including GreatCollections as the Official ANA Auctioneer, as well as Heritage Auctions and Stack's Bowers Galleries hosting major sales, all beginning within the next week. Some potential highlights were reported last week for the Heritage Auction, this week a few highlights from the Stack's Bowers Galleries Summer 2022 Auctions which includes many important collections and rarities. Live bidding will take place from August 22 through September 1, hosted at Stack's Bowers Galleries home auction venue in Costa Mesa, California.
1825/4/1 $5 Gold Capped Bust certified by PCGS PR67 Cameo and CAC

This is the finest known 1825/4/1 $5 Gold, graded PCGS PR67 Cameo, and it also has CAC approval. There are two other coins similar to this one but they are both considered to be one-sided proof coins. The pedigree for this coin includes Parmelee, Eliasberg, and Farouk, however, it has not been available to the market for 50 years. We do not yet have a value listed for this coin; this very well could be the highlight of the entire sale.

1887 $20 Gold certified by PCGS PR65 Deep Cameo and CAC

Although there were 121 Proof minted 1887 $20 Gold coins, there are only 13 that are certified as Deep Cameo in all grades by PCGS and NGC. There are three in PR66 Deep Cameo and three in PR65 Deep Cameo. The coin up for auction here has lovely surfaces and looks to be as nice as the 66's seen in photos. The current CAC value is $237,000, but this coin could realize something closer to the PR66 value that Heritage sold earlier in the year. Below are some of the other potential highlights from the Stack's Bowers Summer Sales.
