Upcoming CSNS Featuring Two Major Auctions

April 10, 2023

The 84th Annual CSNS Convention is almost upon us, being held in Schaumburg, Illinois, April 26-30. This major event will provide not only one, but two auctions for viewing on some of the best quality coins available in the market today. Per the current Heritage Auctions format, auction lots will be shown at Central States and the actual sales will be held at their Dallas headquarters the following week. The Legend Regency Auction 58, which we will cover next week, will be held at the Central States convention on April 27th.

1846 Seated Half Dime certified by PCGS MS63

This 1846 Seated Half Dime will most likely not be the highest priced coin in this sale, but it certainly qualifies as one of the rarest. With only four coins certified in all Mint State grades by PCGS and NGC combined, this coin is the highest graded, and it comes with a lovely pedigree which includes Gardner and Bender. The current FMV is $41,880, for a coin that had an original mintage of 27,000. The Half Dime was not very popular in circulation or with early collectors hence the minimal number of Mint State coins. With just over 200 coins certified in all circulated grades, this coin is now very popular among avid collectors.

1801 Heraldic Eagle Half Dollar certified by NGC MS64 and CAC

The 1801 Half Dollar in NGC MS64 is certainly a classic rarity in this ultimate grade, and this coin also has CAC approval. This Col Green pedigree coin last sold in a previous Heritage sale ten years ago when it realized $329,000. The current CAC value is at $350,000 which will most likely be adjusted upward as a result of this sale. This coin is the highest certified for the date with only three other Mint State coins in MS60, MS62, & MS63, all PCGS. Below are some of the other potential highlights from the Heritage Central States Auction.
