NumisMedia Weekly Market Report
Results from the Legend CSNS Regency 58 Sale
May 1, 2023
Legend Rare Coin Auctions hosted the onsite official auction at the recently concluded Central States Convention (Heritage Auctions will host their official CSNS sale at their offices this week). Regency 58 had several notable highlights including the almost unique 1921 Morgan Dollar in PCGS MS64 DMPL with CAC approval which brought a nice final bid of $23,500. The Dollar market has been heating up as of late. Better-date Morgans, especially those in MS63 and higher that are not readily available, are on many current want lists. Below are some of the other important highlights from the Legend CSNS Regency 58 sale.
1802 Draped Bust Dollar Narrow Date certified by PCGS MS65 and CAC
The 1802 Bust Dollar had an original mintage of 41,650. There are a total of 77 coins certified by PCGS and NGC combined in all Mint State grades, however, the numbers are off because of resubmissions. In the early stages of certification, the two services did not designate Wide or Narrow Date varieties. Currently, there are just 39 Mint State coins certified for the Narrow Date variety, including this PCGS MS65 CAC which realized $188,000. This same coin sold for $180,000 in late 2020, while two other like examples sold for $270,250 and $300,000 also late in 2020.

1928 Peace Dollar certified by PCGS MS66+ and CAC
The 1928 Peace Dollar is a rare date in all grades and is always sought after by collectors, so it is no surprise that one of the finest certified coins for this date had some very aggressive potential buyers. There are two known in MS66 with the + designation, but this one also has CAC approval. This finest certified coin brought $129,250 against a pre-sale estimate of $80,000. Registry collectors are known for paying whatever it takes to acquire the finest known coins for their high-end collections. Below are just some of the highlights from the Legend Regency Auction 58 from Central States.
