ANA Auction Highlights: Heritage Auctions

September 14, 2026

Heritage Auctions was one of the two event partners for the recently completed Pittsburgh ANA (last week we presented the Stack's Bowers Galleries ANA Summer Showcase). After showcasing lots in Pittsburgh, the actual sale took place at the Heritage Auctions home offices in Dallas, Texas. The sale contained several million-dollar coins, some are listed below with many other highlights from this Heritage Auctions ANA Signature Sale. Please check the Heritage Auctions website for the complete list of prices realized.

1879 $4 Gold Stella Coiled Hair certified by NGC PR67 Cameo

With under five-hundred total coins minted in all dates and types, the $4 Gold Stella is as rare as it gets for any limited series. The 1879 Flowing Hair had an original mintage of 425 coins; the population reports indicate a larger number due to resubmissions, and the Cameo and Deep Cameo designations also created quite an overlap. But when it comes to the Coiled Hair, there were just twenty coins minted and there are less than fifteen known to exist. The 1879 $4 Gold Stella Coiled Hair in NGC PR67 Cameo in this sale realized $1,891,000. There are only three coins in this grade, all certified by NGC, one of which realized $2,135,000 in a Heritage Sale earlier this year. The NumisMedia FMV is currently at $2,187,500.
