Baltimore ANA Reveals Strength

This past week’s Baltimore ANA was a tremendous success for the majority of the attending dealers. Wholesale trading was much better than expected and the throngs of collectors attending were anxious to locate and buy coins they needed for their collections. This resulted in many dealers having one of their best shows in several months. High-end rarities (Early Bust and Seated coins) were the main attraction and competition was keen.

Heritage Auction Galleries hosted the ANA Sale with prices realized of over $40 million. Highlights upon highlights brought records for numerous rarities. An 1825/4 $5 Gold in NGC AU50 realized $690,000; an 1803 Bust Dime brought $322,000 in NGC MS64; and a 1944 S Steel Cent in NGC MS66 sold for $373,750. To view all the highlights of this important sale please go to the Heritage website.

Not all the news is good this week as the metals are headed lower. This week’s Wholesale Market Dealer Price Guide for the Moderns indicates many declines in bullion related issues. Platinum is especially weak and is lower again today in open trading. In March, Platinum cruised to over $2,270; today it is under $1,550. Make sure you check current prices when buying or selling bullion coins.

We have added more 2008 issues to the online price guides.

Washington Quarters (MS and PR), Presidential Dollars, Modern Eagles, and Modern $10 and $50 Gold have new 2008 issues added, some prices are listed for active grades, more prices will be added when reported.

These additions will appear in the Moderns Edition of the Weekly Dealer Price Guide this week.
