NumisMedia Weekly Market Report
U.S. Gold Rarities Highlight Heritage Auction
April 27, 2020
With the cancelation of the Central States Convention due to the coronavirus crisis, Heritage Auctions moved the scheduled auction to their Dallas headquarters. The sale was comprehensive with a wide ranging supply of coins from every series but there was some emphasis on rare U.S. Gold. Bidders seemed to be concentrating on the highest grade certified for specific rarities. The 1858 $10 Gold in NGC PR64 Ultra Cameo with the CAC sticker, the highest certified, brought $480,000 and had top honors for the sale. This is the only coin certified by either NGC or PCGS Deep Cameo and there are less than five coins certified in all grades combined.

Another top rarity in this sale was the 1933 $10 Gold Indian in NGC MS65 which sold for $360,000. While there were over 300,000 coins originally minted the majority were never released due to the Presidential order to prohibit the ownership of gold coins. There are a total of 8 coins certified in MS65 with another 3 certified with the + designation. There are 2 graded MS66, one of those has the CAC label. Compared to the current prices this coin appears to be a bargain. The NumisMedia Market value is listed at $535,000. Below are some of the other highlights from the Central States Numismatic Society Sale hosted by Heritage Auctions in Dallas.
