NumisMedia Weekly Market Report
Gold Breaks $2,000, Falls Back Under
March 27, 2023
At the end of last week, Gold climbed just over $2,000 an ounce before profit-taking forced it back to $1,978. Currently Gold is down to $1,951 as sellers have pushed the metal lower again. Being on the right side of these market swings takes not only skill in trading but a good amount of luck as well; always check current prices when buying and selling your Gold positions.
The Whitman Coin Expo featured lot viewing for the Stack's Bowers Galleries Spring 2023 Auction, which included an exceptional number of U.S. Gold coins, many of which have not been on the market for some time. The top two sellers in this sale (coins we do not list) were the 1792 Cent with Silver Center certified by PCGS MS61 Brown CAC which brought $576,000 and the 1854 Kellogg & Co. $20 Gold PCGS MS65 CAC which realized $552,000. Also, the highest graded 1886 $20 Gold PR67 Deep Cameo certified by PCGS (highlighted in our last article) sold for $468,000. Below are some of the many highlights from the Spring 2023 Stack's Bowers sale, which also included the Fairmont Collection of U.S. Gold.
1886 $10 Gold certified by PCGS PR66+ Deep Cameo and CAC
The 1886 $10 Gold in Proof had an original mintage of just 60 coins. There are less than 10 coins certified by PCGS and NGC combined in Deep Cameo. This PCGS PR66+ CAC coin is the highest certified by PCGS, although there is one NGC PR67 listed on the pop report. While our CAC price currently is at $335,000, this coin brought $264,000, which looks like a bargain for the Simpson pedigree coin. This same coin sold just last year for $312,000.
1886 $10 Gold PCGS PR66+ Deep Cameo CAC sold for $264,000 in Stack's Bowers Galleries Whitman Expo Spring 2023 Auction in Costa Mesa, California, March 20-29, 2023
